Dr. Dale Smith is a South African medical doctor with a foundation built across military hospitals, emergency departments, and remote field projects. His career is increasingly defined by one conviction: that people working and living in the world's most remote and demanding environments deserve the same standard of care as anyone else. Graduating from the University of Pretoria with an MBChB and holding a Diploma in Primary Emergency Care, Dale spent years sharpening his clinical edge in many of Cape Town’s (South Africa) hospitals — managing ICU cases overnight, running emergency casualty shifts, and leading intern training programmes — before taking that expertise out of the institution and into the field.

 

As Director of RES Healthcare Dale oversees medical operations for providing healthcare to projects across Africa. That means recruiting and managing teams of field medics and doctors, coordinating emergency evacuation logistics, procuring and deploying medical supplies to sites where the nearest hospital may be hours away, and providing hands-on support as the on-site field doctor when the work demands it. His qualifications are based around the nature of the work in remote clinical practice: ATLS, ACLS, Wilderness Life Support, Emergency Ultrasound, snakebite management, defensive and 4x4 driving.

Dale has experience in successfully implementing and coordinating remote medical projects and services in some of Africa’s most austere settings. From medical emergency services in remote field camps deep in the African bush to community projects in some of the continent's most underserved regions. Dale’s experience and passion for pulling off seemingly daunting and formidable challenges to bring healthcare to the people who need it most is a big part of what defines RES Healthcare’s vision.
