Dr. Dale Smith
Director
Dale is the RES Group’s Chief Medical Officer and Health & Safety Manager, combining his deep commitment to African communities with his love for remote operations. To this end, he has played a key role in shaping and establishing RES Healthcare, within the RES Group, as a trusted partner in delivering holistic, community-focused healthcare solutions in some of Africa’s most challenging environments.

Dale started his career in the South African National Defence Force, after receiving a military bursary to study Medicine through the University of Pretoria. While in the Defence Force, Dale served as Medical Officer across various departments, including; Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine and the Intensive Care Unit.

Brett van Coller
Director
Brett has more than 25 years’ experience in exploration and mining projects across Africa. After graduating from the University of Cape Town in 1995 with Honours in Geology, Brett joined the Mineral Services Group responsible for the planning and implementation of grassroots exploration projects.
​
During this period Brett was responsible for developing the company’s field exploration techniques. In 2006, Brett became a founding member of Remote Exploration Services. As Managing Director of RES, Brett is responsible for the overall development, management and financial sustainability of the business.
​
Building on the RES legacy, Brett has been instrumental in incubating a number of new businesses into what has now become the RES Group, including; Xpotential Mining Services, RES PRIME and now RES Healthcare, adding his experience, insight and commercial sensibility to these ventures, ensuring their growth and long-term sustainability.

Joshua Kilani
Executive Consultant
Joshua serves as Executive Consultant to RES Healthcare, providing senior strategic and operational support across the business. Drawing on over 15 years of experience in exploration geology, carbon markets, and sustainability consulting, he supports RES Healthcare by strengthening systems, enhancing commercial insight and reinforcing practical, high-impact delivery.

Fulfilling a dual role within the RES Group; as the Managing Director of Xpotential Mining Services (XMS), a specialist ESG consultancy, as well as his role in RES Healthcare, Joshua ensures RES Healthcare maintains a holistic approach, delivering a wider spectrum of sustainable solutions, with healthcare as the gateway that unlocks additional layers of high-impact, community-focused initiatives.

Dr. Ruan Fourie
Medical Officer
Ruan serves as Medical Officer at RES Healthcare. Upon completing his studies at Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, having been awarded a Military Bursary, Ruan served in the South African National Defence Force for more than a decade. As Medical Officer in the SANDF, Ruan served in the General Surgery and Emergency Unit, gaining significant experience both in treating patients and the organisational aspects of running a medical unit.

Between deployments to remote projects Ruan maintains a regular schedule of shift work at emergency centres in the private sector, ensuring he remains at the forefront of innovation and novel medical treatments.
​
Ruan is passionate and energised by the opportunity to put his shoulder to the wheel and assist RES Healthcare in changing the narrative of Healthcare in Africa. Guided by the words of Albert Pine; “What we do for ourselves dies with us, what we do for others and the world remains and is immortal."
Dr. Simon von Staden
Medical Officer
Simon completed his medical degree in 2020 at WITS, following which he went on to complete his internship in Johannesburg and community service in rural Mpumalanga.
He has worked in both the public and private healthcare sectors with experience working in the following departments: Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Family medicine and Emergency Medicine.
Relishing the opportunity to practice medicine in a remote rural area, Simon has most recently served as Medical Doctor for RES Healthcare on a Project in Botswana, loving being in the bush and the opportunity live out his passion for serving people.

Brendon Makara
Safety Officer + Lead Data Analyst
Brendon holds a multi-faceted, yet synergistic role in the RES Group as both Safety Officer and Lead Data Analyst for RES Healthcare. Having started his career in software development, Brendon leverages his deep understanding of data and analytics to provide essential health and safety related insights to the RES Healthcare Team. Taking overall responsibility for the implementation, management and further development of the RES Healthcare (app-based) Health, Safety and Environment Management System, Brendon ensures alignment between objectives and outcomes.
​
On the ground, Brendon has substantial operational experience implementing and managing the Health, Safety and Environmental aspects of early-stage exploration projects, both as part of a bigger team and individually. He has also worked closely with the HSE departments of large mining companies, gaining essential experience and insights into the operational and technical demands required by corporate clients.
Charl van Rensburg
​Brand Manager
Charl has over a decade’s direct experience working in the mineral exploration industry, focused on African exploration. Having started his career working on large public sector change management projects as a Project Manager, Charl recognised the critical role clear communication played in these Projects, which led to him establishing his own brand and communication consulting business, working in specialised industries such as; finance, engineering, geoscience and manufacturing.
​
Harnessing more than 20 years’ experience assisting these businesses in their brand building, business communication and copywriting, Charl leverages this multi-disciplinary focus and approach to assist the RES Group businesses.
